Shamwari Black Rhino Project

Shamwari Black Rhino Project

After Angie had spent many a month at Shamwari Game Reserve as a conservation volunteer she met Anja Truter whose job it was to track and monitor their rhino on a daily basis. After lots of discussion finding where help could be given to make tracking rhinos more effective especially the Black rhinos who spend a lot of their time in thick bush and can sometimes be very hard to find and having the opportunity to experience these challenges that face Anti-Poaching units on a daily basis herself it was agreed that £2,500 would be given to collar, micro-chip, and DNA a number of Black rhino on the reserve. Helicopters were also used to locate the rhino for darting purposes. 5 camera traps were also donated to assist with obtaining useful information of animal movements, behaviour and well-being.
